Well Oiled Wheelers Complete Mammoth 24hr Cycle

Jun 28, 2022

Mizen Head to Malin Head Saturday 25th June

The Well-Oiled Wheelers completed the amazing challenge of cycling from Mizen Head in Cork to Malin head in Donegal on Saturday 25th June in less than 24 hrs.  Rain and wet conditions did not help the progress of the event, but the team and the crew battled on regardless.

The cycle team consisted of PJ Cowley, Brendan McKenna, Willie Tuite, Gerry Doyle, Patrick Arnold, Ronan Sheridan, Tommy Fields and Ronny McNally all from the surrounding Ardcath area.  This gruelling event took its tool with freezing conditions, injury and a crash taking out some of the squad.

With an average speed of 29 km per hour across the 580 km the team completed the journey in just over 23 hrs allowing for rest breaks.  The event could not have happened without the support from all club members, and it was a credit to all that helped.

All got home safely, and stories will be told for many years about the trails & tribulations of that wet day in June 2022!!!!  WOW Abu
